Lucy - 11.5 year old westie

Question
Hi! I have a 11.5 year old westie.  She is aggressive towards most dogs,
although she does ignore some when walking.  She used to get along with
other dogs when she was a puppy.  I was wondering if it would be possible
or even worth getting a trainer to help me train her to be ok with other dogs
both on walks and in the house because I would really like to rescue a puppy.
I know that she is getting old, but she still has a lot of spunk and can get
aggressive.  I don't want to stress her out or cause another dog any danger.
Thank you,
Juliet

Answer
Hi Juliet,

Because there is a lot of spunk left in your Westie, you should work a trainer to try to overcome her aggression problem. Since your dog used to tolerate other dogs better, she may just need a "refresher course", to get her back on track.

However, if your dog won't tolerate other dogs, she may not be the best candidate to take part in your dreams of rescuing a puppy. Once you begin working with a trainer, and that person has evaluted your dog, then ask the trainer what he or she thinks of introducing a puppy to your home.

Best of luck,
Patti
