Swelling due to sprained ankle

Question
Hi. I just got a toy, or teacup rather, poodle a few days ago.  3 days ago, I went to pick her up, she panicked and jumped. She landed on her left paw and has been limping ever since. I didn't know what to do, so I had her in her cage. This morning she was walking on it purfectly. But my kid brother picked her up and dropped her again, on purpose. Now she's in even more pain and she stopped walking on her foot. her foot has started to swell, not her ankle where the sprain was. I put an ace bandage on it earlier so she wouldn't move it, her foot started to swell up only after I put it on her. Is that the reason why her foot started to swell or was it my brother? her foot isn't broken, vet check. But now it's swelling, something it wasn't doing when she first sprained it.

Answer
Hi Shayla,

Until your dog has been seen by your vet, remove the ace bandage. You don't know what the problem is, and bandaging the inured ankle might be the wrong treatment. Also, if you bandaged it incorrectly you can cause more problems.

Let your dog in her crate to rest quietly until she can be seen by your vet.

Best of luck,
Patti
