Question
Hi,
I have a 10 week old cocker spaniel. I adopted him 2 weeks ago. He's from arkansas and i am from cold new york. I am wondering if he's home sick because it seems as though he is angry and rebelling. When i tell him to stop he growls. When i am rubbing him he tries to bite at my fingers. I am very new to this and i just want to know is this behavior normal and if it is what techniques can i use for him to stop. Thank you.

Answer
Marlisa, your puppy is exhibiting normal puppy behaviors. He doesn't know what "stop" means. He thinks you're playing. He's probably also beginning to teethe, and will want to chew and gnaw on everything for a while. If you are telling him to stop, and he doesn't stop, try getting up and just leaving. He will soon learn that if you tell him to stop and he doesn't, playtime is over. Try to always have a toy in your pocket or nearby that you can redirect his mouthiness to if he starts biting at your hands or fingers.
