carpet breaking my dog

Question
I have a mature dog (11), she is housebroken. Recently I purchased an outdoor carpet for a dining area.  Shortly after our dog started using it as new potty spot...of course we have tried everything to get her to stop but nothing has worked.  We have purchased pet repellent which are chemical, I don't like to use them, especially in an eating area - didn't help at all.  She is an outdoor pet (only when we are not home - otherwise she is in the house)and we have another dog, a male about 2 - they love each other (no problems there). I have tried to monitor her, but I caught her once peeping and she uses different areas.  I know it is not the male...he is really good about use the lawn area.  Please help, I don't want to buy expensive products, however I am open to homemade remedies, and I don't like to punish her, even though she knows when I am mad. Thank you

Answer
Perhaps it would be easier to teach her to use another area than teach her not to use that area.  Choose a command and spot you want her to use. Choosing a non grassy spot will avoid brown spots later.  When you think she needs to go, take her to the spot and give her the command in a firm, but friendly voice. Keep repeating the command and let her sniff around. Sometimes you need to walk it around to stimulate its body to eliminate.  If she does anything, praise her. Really let it know what a good dog it is and how much you love it, and maybe a treat.

You could try some things such as vinegar, citronella, citrus extract, etc. a dog might find unpleasant on the carpet.
