Bichon Ball Obsession

Question
I have a 4 year old Bichon. We got Bo when he was about 6 weeks old.  He tends to obsess with certain toys. First it was a Frisbee then a plastic stick and now a red rubber Kong ball. He barely ever lets it out of his sight. He plays what looks like soccer where he uses his front paws to move it and play. He will put the ball down and freeze into a forward looking position waiting for it to be thrown. When ever we do throw it he brings it back but drops it about 10  feet from us then turns around and freezes. If we don't get up and get the ball he will pick it up and drop it a few more towards us. When he plays this "soccer Game" it seems like he has is suffering a great deal of stress. When on the pool deck he always plays soccer and it always ends up in the pool. He paces and paces with this crazed look on his face. He will not go out of the house unless he has the ball in his mouth. He is a super great dog but this obsession is very annoying to us and guests. Yesterday in 2 hours he threw the ball in the pool 8 times. It is very frustrating to both us and I am sure very stressful for Bo. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Answer
Hi,
What happens when you pick the ball/Frisbee up and put it away where he cant see it?  And, if you do that with each consecutive toy that he is obsessed with.
When you pick up the toy and put it away, try taking him for a walk so he can get his brain off of the things in the house.  Try this and see if that does the trick.  There are also some drugs that the vet can give for OCD.  However, I think he has you manipulated at the moment and if you pick up the toys and refuse to play his game it would be better.  However, why is he doing this?  My guess would be that he is very smart and is bored and needs more walks and a variety of new socialization activities, dog parks, day care, etc.  Or a another dog to play with, would be a good solution as well.
