Question
Shawn I have a three year old male black lab. 5 days ago on Sunday he was playing ball in the yard and all of sudden he freaked out ran out of the yard barking crying and could not get back into the house fast enough. He ran up stairs hid in a closet continued to bark and cry and shake for 20 minutes. We calmed him down and checked for injuries found nothing and he slowly recovered in a couple of hours. We were not able to relate it to anything. We brought him back outside and patrolled the areas he was in with him and no reaction to anything. Couple of hours passed and it happened again but not the the same extreme extent. % days pass and he is with me at work in my shop he was playing again and reacted the same as the first. Then a couple of hours later in a outdoor fenced area he did the same and now is currently not acting himself very quiet. I am stumped and I am concerned if it may be a underling problem. Any thoughts or experiences shared will be helpful. FYI i contacted my vet and shared info and he regular vet is getting back to me.

Answer
Mike-

It's possible that he is having small seizures, which is frightening him. It is common after a small seizure for a dog to cry, bark, circle, hide, or shake. Sometimes, they may be so confused they bite.

Normally, my first reaction would be fire ants, or a bee, or something similar. But if it is happening in multiple locations, I would be concerned about a medical problem.

I think you were right to contact the vet- hopefully he can offer you more insight based upon your dogs previous medical history. My first thought would be seizures at this point.

I hope he feels better!!!
