Question
Can I pay the AKC to register my purebred puppy after the purchase, like in 6 months or so?  The breeder has priced her 7 week old poodle at $600 for limited registration; $1000 for full registration.  Couldn't I just get him registered at some point What's the benefit of full registration?  Won't the limited registration tell me if the poodle is too inbred?

Answer
Unless you are going to show or breed your dog, don't bother with registration at all. There is no benefit other then that.  You can not register your puppy without the breeder. Limited registration means your puppy is reg. as a purebred poodle, but you may not reg. any puppies she/he may have. This is the way for breeders to sell puppies that they don't really want bred. If you bred your dog on a limited reg., you couldn't sell your puppies as AKC reg.  On a full reg., you could bred your dog and reg. the puppies with the AKC. Usually you can charge more per puppy if they are registered. Just so you are also aware..just because a dog is registered with the AKC does not mean it is a quality dog. Inbred dogs and be registered just as easily as out bred dogs. You can ask to see the dogs pedigree before you purchase the puppy.  Any good breeder will provide you with that information. If they don't, they must have something to hide.
