New puppy with current dog

Question
Hi,
We have an 11-month old shepherd/husky. My daughter has just adopted a stray little puppy. Both are female. We live in the remote north of Canada and it is difficult for us to get to a vet. The new puppy has been here about 4 weeks now. "Cujo" our current dog has been throwing up her food. There is no blood, or bile in the food and it can come out in different stages of digestion. I have kept her off anything heavy. Started with broth and last night gave her a bit of boiled chicken. She was fine last night, but gave her the same this morning and she threw it up right away (including what she ate last night). She is drinking water and pooing and peeing fine.
Could this behaviour have something to do with the new puppy? I realize that it could be many things, but I wondered if you had seen or heard anything like this before.
Cujo is not being neglected at all, she is playing fine, and also likes to play with the new little one.
Thank you for any help or advice you can give.

Ginny

Answer
I would like to see a vet visit, but maybe in your case you should give her a little more time.  Try this:

Bland recovery diet for dogs.

3 parts cooked rice, one part boiled hamburger or chicken, or cottage cheese. I think you can substitute boiled potatoes for the rice. Once in an emergency, we bought a plain baked potato from Wendy's.

This is meant for short time settling a dog's digestive tract. It is not the complete and balanced diet they need long term. I have seen it work.

I am glad you gave the stray a home and that Cujo is accepting it.  A younger dog that still likes puppy play is often happy to have a playmate.
