My dog hates other dogs!

Hello. My husband and I just recently adopted a small 13lb Whippet/Sheltie/terrier type of mix. She was originally from a dog pound in Southern Indiana and was fostered for only 8 days in a home where the girl  had another dog before we got her.  She played well with this other dog and really seemed to love it.  She is about 1 yr old and she is a great dog, housebroken, loveable, OK with the cats (she doesn't attack them), but she is EXTREMELY protective of us. She does not like when we give the cats any attention, she is not mean, but she makes sure that she pushes them aside to get to us.  Also, we just recently found out that she is not good with other dogs.  We live in a condo and there are other dogs all over and she charges them and shows her teeth and barks.  She is not aggressive AT ALL towards us and if we tell her no or call her name in any other circumstance she is very good about listening, but with other dogs she is a crazy woman! We tried to introduce her to another dog and she attacked it, trying to bite its stomach, until I picked her up. This dog was a 50lb dog and she is lucky it didn't fight back.  I am running out of options. I hope there is something we can do to help her with her dog social  issues..thanks!

Well what you can do,is to go to a friend's backyard or house that has a dog,and let them play,but put a muzzle on your dog(so she can't hurt the other dog,you can muzzle the other dog if it makes you feel better)so she will learn that other dogs won't hurt you are her,this works pretty well on allot of dogs,but some dogs will always hate other dogs but it is worth a shot
