First cut for my toy poodle

Hello, I have a 5 months old toy poodle, so far she has only had her face and throat, paws and private bit trimmed. I love her fluffy and I would like to keep her puppy cut even when adult. I have read it is not advisable to do the first cut before 1 yr old? Is this a myth or is it true? When would you suggest it is ok to do the first body cut without ruining the coat? Sorry for the long question. Thank you Cristina

The younger you start her grooming the better.  She'll have to be groomed alot in her life and she needs to get used to it.  To keep the puppy look you won't be cutting all her hair off so it won't be damaging.  Show poodles start off being groomed very early.  So I would say what you heard is a myth.  If you waited until she was a year old she would probably be very difficult for the groom.  Hope this helps.
