Dog ate a rabbit!

Question
Today I let out my German Shepherd, who ran under our deck. I went around to see what she was doing and saw her and one of our cats playing with a squealing baby rabbit. I went inside to ask my mom what to do and have my younger brother come out and climb under the deck only to see my dog swallowing up the legs of the baby rabbit. I don't see any remains anywhere so either the dog ate it all or her and the cat shared it. Is this unhealthy for the dog? Is she going to have diarrhea? She has in the past when eating things she shouldn't. Also, we're supposed to go camping tomorrow and take her with us, so we'd like to know if she's going to be sick or not.

Answer
Hi Jeanette,

I've been delayed here with computer problems so I assume by now you know how the rabit affected our dog. It's not likely to cause problems as a German Shepherd is a large dog, and a baby rabbit a small animal. Dogs are adapted to eat prey so I don't anticipate any problems with this. If anything you might see *some* loose stool. Bones are most dangerous when splintered, and the rabbit's will be very soft and small, so all you should see is some fur in the stool.
I hope everything turned out well for your girl!

All the best, Catherine
