Feeding

Hi.  I have an 8 1/2 month old great Dane -Lab mix.  (mother was the Dane)to whom I have been feeding Purina Pro Plan Large breed puppy food (4 cups am and pm)  He has been neutered.  When can I start him on adult dog food?

I would start to switch him over as soon as you run low. Switching to an adult chow for the larger breeds early, slows growth and helps develop sturdier joints.  Work in more of the new until after a week, it is all new.  Keeping them lean is important too.  

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs.
