Question
I have a 3 year old miniature dachshund.  Sam's problem is he scratches a lot.  According to a book I bought about these dogs, this could be due to his being allergic to the dog food I buy.  I have bought dog food at the vet's ofc (some kind of Science dog food) and small bites dog food at the grocery store.  The scratching seems to be getting worse and I brush him a lot, which he seems to like.  I take him to the vet regularly.  What do I need to feed him.

Hello Mary, Yes, I can help you and your little dachshund!
Don't continue the Science Diet Hill's food, awful stuff!  I know the vet sells this but the ingredients are very poor.
***here is my plan for you:

1.  Place this baby on some Innova EVO reduced fat dog food ( this is grain free).
If you can find this Innova then look for Wellness CORE reduced fat dog food.
The last choice would be Merrick BEFORE grain dog food.  They are all found at the local pet store or order on-line.
Mix YOUR food and the NEW food for 3 weeks at a 50:50 mix.  AFTER the 3 weeks, please go to the 100% grain free feeding only.
No snacks unless they are NO grain treats.
Many pet food companies make a No grain treat.

2.  Wash this kid in some NuVET TEA tree oil shampoo ( it is called:  HOT spot tea tree shampoo) you can only get it on-line at the NuVET company.  This is holistic and very safe.

This will help to reduce all the shedding and stops the itchies.

4.  Last, Please place this kid on (1) 50 IU of Vitamin E per day for 1 month.
This is a CAT sized dosage of E.  VERY safe and great for the skin and coat.
HIDE the E in some WET dog food or a small bite of beef hot dog.
