Question
I have a jack russell terrier and he eats very fast and then within minutes he has to go out to have a bowel movement.  As soon as he drinks within 10 minutes he has to go out to pee.  Does he have a health problem or is this just the way they are?  He just turned a year old and he has always been this way...I have changed his food and nothing changes how fast he eats or when he goes to the bathroom...

Answer
Puppies are like that, but usually by the time they are a year old it takes longer.  At least he is predictable.

There is not one, but 2 easy, tested, effective ways to control rapid eating.  It is a big problem with Labs.  You can spread the food out on a cookie sheet or something. Some of my friends just throw it on the floor of the crate. You can put large rocks in the food dish, much to big to swallow. Either way, the dog can't gulp down one big mouthful after another.

I don't have any solution to the instant elimination.  If you have him in for a one year check up and shots, you could ask the vet.
