Pugs with yeast infections

Question
Hi!I am the proud Mom of four sweet Pug kids(one I've had since she was 7 wks. old and three I adopted from rescue organizations last year). I have been battling yeast infections of the skin and ears with two of my girls (often resulting in secondary bacterial infections of the skin). I am very concerned about the overuse of antibiotics and antifungal medications because these issues keep recurring. The treatments are always the same at the vet...and they work temporarily, but the problem keeps coming up again. This has lead me to researching alternative treatments including a possible change in their diet. Currently, I feed them Blue Buffalo Adult Small Breed Formula. I chose this food because of the absence of corn, soy, wheat or wheat gluten, thinking I was covering the bases for choosing a good food for them. I have recently read that a dog with yeast problems should eat only grain-free foods (so no rice or barley,etc.-which Blue Buffalo has). I also have to really watch their weight (two of them are slightly overweight now--one is two years old and the other is five)--they are pretty sedentary during the late Spring and Summer months because they cannot tolerate extreme heat (being that they are a brachycephalic breed). So, I need to get some weight off and I need some advice on how I can get this yeast under control for them (including food choice and treatments). I give them all weekly baths (which includes ear cleaning with Vet Solutions Ear Cleansing Solution). The Pugs affected with yeast get bathed with Malaseb shampoo and I also use the pledgets as needed. I would really appreciate any advice on this matter. They bring me so much joy and I just want to do my best for them. I love them with all my heart and I hate to see them so miserable. Thank you so much for your time.

Pugs with yeast infections...Yes, I can help you Sandy!  You have come to the right person.
I loveeeeee Pugs!
Yes, you are correct in thinking that GRAIN-FREE will be the way to go for your pugs.

Here is my plan and it will work -
I have followed 100s of dogs just like yours.
Many success stories !

1.  Please slowly mix the Blue Buffalo with one of the following :  Merrick Grain free;
Innova Evo Reduced fat formula; or Wellness Core ( ocean )-  ( if any of the brands have reduced fat get that one.
EVO, CORE and the Merrick BEFORE grain are excellent choices for your pugs.
Mix the two foods at a 50:50 mix for 3 weeks and then go to 100% of the New grain free food:

2.  Please place both girls on this Probiotic:  Acidophalus 1 billion CFUs ( give 1 per day per pug dog)  - Do this for at least 90 days or more:  You can find this probiotic is any Walmart or pharmacy in the Human Vitamin Section.
This is very safe and low cost.  Excellent for dogs with excessive Yeast in the blood and skin.
This will Balance the system and get control of this overgrowth.

3.  Please put the two "Allergy / yeast" pug girls on the NuVET Plus Wafers system - One wafer per day will help to Blast the Allergies and RE-Build the immune system -
* The Antibiotics has shot the immune system and that is why they get ear infections and such.

NuVET will cost you about .60 cents per day per dog - MUCH less than What you pay the vet office.
NuVET will help to deal with the environmental allergies and food allergies..... NO more antibiotics.

Also, ask for some Tea tree oil / HOT spot shampoo-  You will use this just every 2 weeks long term.  Drop the other products and don't wash weekly.  ( drys out the skin)
If you need to wash the paws - use a Foam waterless foam like Miracle Coat:
I use miracle coat and unscented baby wipes.

If you want to use the Malasab wipes, that is fine.  ( the pledgets)

As far as Ear cleaning - yes continue to use the ear solution weekly.  In the future you may only need to do this 2 x per month.  The NuVET supplement will help to reduce the drainage that forms all the EAR secretions.

A NEW grain free food......
A great Probiotic .....
NuVET Plus ....
NuVET tea tree oil shampoo.....

That is my plan for you.  We can add more if needed.  This is a good start for your girls.
Very easy to do and fairly low cost.

Keep me posted.
