Dry vs. Wet dog food

Question
I have been feeding my "Shid Zu" wet and dry dogfood, mostly wet. I have decided to go with an all-dry diet because I think it will be better for his health and teeth, not to mention his goatee which collects food and bacteria. Would it be better to go cold-turkey or which to dry food gradually? Thank you.

Answer
I agree with the switch to dry food.  Any sudden switch in diet can lead to digestive upsets.  I would stick with the dry chow you are feeding and just slowly cut back in the wet.  If he won't eat the dry alone, evaluate his body condition.  Most dogs will thrive on most chows.  Doing a lot of switching around can lead to problems.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest.
You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them.  Each dog is
different.  Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog
must have its food adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide,

If he doesn't want to eat the dry, as long as his ribs aren't showing, just take it up until the next meal.  Chance are, he will eat before hurting himself.
