Liver / Thyroid Health in Shitzu

Question
My aunts baby girl Grace, a 2 yr old pure shitzu, has recently had a 1am seizure and has been diagnosed by bloodwork to have a slight liver / thyroid condition. I believe diet may have alot to do with it. The day of the seizure she was fed (for the first time) Pup-A-Roni treats (3 throughout the day) Very high in salt content (I believe) and now, of course, no more Pup-A-Ronis. But the question is what brand of store bought food would promote liver / thyroid health in small breed dogs? Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
I would go with any of the major brands of dry dog chow.  Most dogs do just fine on them.  None, none of them were involved in the recalls earlier this year.  All the recalls were canned, semi moist, or specialty brands.  With such a small dog, she might select one formulated for small dogs.  If nothing else, they at least come in smaller kibbles.

Much of what you hear about dog chow comes from people selling dog chow.  I have personally seen thousands of dogs thriving on Pro Plan which is full of ''bad ingredients'' according to some.  If it is made with all the awful stuff, why do dogs thrive on it?  Perhaps whoever is behind the lists of bad ingredients has some other agenda than the health of dogs.
