Switching Foods!

Question
Hi Labman! I have my Chihuahuas on Canidae All Life Stages! They have been eating it for quite a while and I never had any problems. Ever since they changed their formula, I've had nothing but problems with the Canidae! It is making my dogs sick, has a very bad smell to it and I want to switch to something else. I don't trust Canidae anymore and I don't want to risk my dogs health either. I also have a Chihuahua Runt with Liver Disease who is resticted to what she can eat, and when I spoke to the vet, he said it was ok to switch her to The Wellness Chicken and Sweet Potato Formula. It has 8.0 % Protein in it! Zoe will mostly eat the wet food only, but sometimes will pick at the dry food too. The vet said that Zoe cannot have a lot of Protein in her food. I'm looking for a food, that both Zoe and my other Chi's can eat, that won't be harmful to Zoe's Liver and that my other Chi's can also eat, and at the same time get all the nutrients they need, if it's even possible! I want to make sure I find the same food that would be ok for Zoe to eat, without causing more harm to her liver and at the same time a food that my other Chi's can eat too!I don't want to have to worry about Zoe eating the same dry food as my other dogs and end up having problems. Can you recommend a good High Quality food, that would be safe for all my dogs? I was thinking about switching them to Wellness, but I don't know too much about the food! All I know is that it's supposed to be one of the best! Can you please tell me what food you would recommend? Thanks! I'm sorry if parts of this don't make sense, but I got some really bad news about Zoe today, and I'm not exactly with it today!

Answer
I would ask the vet about feeding the other dogs the 8% protein Wellness.  That sounds low, but if it is carefully enough balanced protein, it may be enough.

As far as I know the wellness is OK.  I have heard good and bad reports on almost every chow there is.  I am hearing many bad reports about the new Canidae.  Because of the success I see in large, professionally managed service dog programs, I trust the common brands they feed more than the premium chows.
