Question
My Pomeranian puppy has recently started licking her paw and scratches her face alot, She has never done that before, I then searched online and it says those were the symptoms of food allergy, she has been eating the same food for the past couple of months, since shes sucha a picky eater, I mixed 2 kinds of food together, one is authoritys, chicken flavor and the other one is Medi-cal that I got from the vet, they are both chicken flavor, she never have problems with it, and just couple weeks ago, I bought the Iams dry food topper, its a chicken flavor sauce, could that be the problem? Should I stop giving her the topper and see if she has the same problems? or should i feed her different food? should i bring her to the vet?
Thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Serene,

I would start off by switching your  pup to a premium quality food, preferably one with a novel protein, such as duck or venison.
I like the Fromm FourStar Duck and Sweet Potato, also Natural Balance has a Venison formula - and IF you can get it, THIS food is superb and will be vastly better for your dog than anything from IAMs or MediCal:

Definitely stop the IAMs topper and see about swithcing to a premium food, as a starter. If your dog has a true allergy she may require a home made diet, but a vet check is always worthwhile. They will try to sell you Science Diet but in my experience,  it's a very poor choice for allergy except for extreme and intractable cases. It doesn't sound like yours is that bad, but getting off the corn and chicken etc right NOW is a very good idea.

Let me know if you cant find these foods and we can look for others for you.
All the best, Catherine
