Question
Hi Marie!
I own 2 female bulldogs. They are 2 and 3
years old. One has been diagnosed with
hypothyroidism. The other is showing some
symptoms also. She will be tested at her
next appt. My question is; is it possible that
they are not getting the proper nutrients
from their food? They are from totally
different bloodlines so I find it hard to
believe they both have the same problem.
The one that had been diagnosed, was
found to be fine by one vet and then
diagnosed with hypothyroidism by another.
She is being medicated and her hair has
become full and thick although there had
been no significant change in her weight.
The other is at a good weight but has some
hair loss and wrinkle problems that are
hard to clear up. I am currently feeding
them Blue Buffalo Basic Turkey and
Potatoes. Is it possible that they have an
iodine deficiency? I'm just finding it hard to
believe that 2 girls from different
bloodlines have developed the same
problem at the same time.
Thanks for you help!

Answer
Hi Nikki - This can be very common in the bullie breeds.
Yes, it is considered a very common inherited problem.
Sorry, I don't believe it has anything to do with the food.

This is the condition resulting from a low production of usable hormones by the thyroid gland.

As for the hair re-growth and wrikle problems - see here:
This helps the folds...
