Question
We have an almost 15 week Female Cavoodle named Zoe (Cavapoo - Cavalier X Toy Poodle). She has 3 meals of Science Diet Puppy a day.
She weighs 3.6 kilos (7.93 pounds) and we feed her 130 grams (4.58 oz). Half for breakfast and the other half broken in to two smaller meals for lunch and dinner.
What age do we drop to 2 meals a day for her?

I thought that I would feed her 2 meals daily. I had read that this was a must for small dogs, is this correct?

We have 2 drinking places for her to go during the day, and remove the water about 2 hours before bed time. She does sleep from about 10.30pm-8.30am in her create without waking and has never had an 'accident' during the night.

She does have treats during the day when we are training her - dried liver or frozen Christmas ham or plain roasted chicken. The pieces I give her are tiny, just a taste to say good job (about 1/16th of an inch in size). She has them as a reward and must work for them. They are not given just because.
Thank you for your time and help.

Answer
Hi Karen.

At her size, I would try to keep her on three meals a day until she's around six months, or until most of her growth is complete.  She may very well phase out a third feeding herself, which is fine, just watch for signs of low blood sugar.

If you are treating frequently through the day, you should be just fine to go to two meals a day as she is getting calories and nutrition from the treats she is getting.  Again, just watch for signs of low blood sugar with her.

Good luck with your pup!
