food allergy

Question
I have a 8 year old chihuahua that is allergic to food. I don't know what the condition is called because it is long hard hard to spell and pronounce. The vet told me they mostly see it in big dogs, it rare in small one. It cause sores and swelling in his mouth and throat and is painful. When they first seen him for it they thought it was cancer, but after a biopsy this was the diagnosis. The treatment is the perscription science diet dog food ZD. I am wondering if there is an alternative to this food because it is $58.00 for an 18lb bag. Everytime I buy it the cost has gone up. soon the dog will be able to eat and we won't.lol
I am willing to make his food but just don't know what to make. I also have to other chihuahuas and would like to be able to feed them all the sme instead of havinf to seperate them to eat. I know Rascal feels left out.

Hi Lynn - I understand your concern about the cost of the Z/D.
I am not fond of the Hill's products but this one is very good and one that will reduce your VET bills in the future.
Sorry, the best thing is this...NOT much out there for choices .

BEST wishes....
AT least your Chi doesn't eat 3-4 cups of Z/D per day!  Right....???
