Question
QUESTION: Hi.  I am hoping you can help me.  I have an 8 yr old female shih-tzu who is dealing with fairly severe UTI's just in this past year.  About 10 months ago we treated her for stones (the dissolving kind) and they did dissolve in a couple months.  She was on antibiotics during then as well.  A few months later she had another severe UTI, bleeding.  There were no stones but her red and white blood cells were super high and crystals were found.  I believe they said they were the non dissolving kind.  She's been on/off antibiotics for the last month and they want us to use the Royal Canin for UTI dog food.  The antibiotics don't seem to be doing much and they want to try a diff. one now.

My problem, other than she has a UTI and the suffering with that, is I don't like her being on antibiotics so long and I do not like the quality/ingredients in the prescribed food.  I've been trying to give her ACV and other supplements that are supposed to help for this problem but it doesn't seem to be doing a lot.

Can you recommend anything to help and is there a better natural or holistic dog food that is better for dogs prone to UTI's? I was going to try Artemis.  I also try and give them fresh or raw food from time to time or mixed with their food.  I add water to their food, probiotics/digestive supplement, vitamin C, coconut oil, yogurt or cottage cheese sometimes, ACV...

I'm trying to find a more natural way of making her feel better and getting rid of this...and hopefully keep her from getting more...

Thank you so much in advance for any help!!!

QUESTION: Hi Marie.  I just wanted to say thank you for replying to my question! =o)  I will try your suggestions.  Does grain free specifically help UTI prone dogs?

Thanks again!
Kristen

Answer
SoJO Grain free mix / you add the meat
SoJO Grain free mix /
Hi -  YOU are Welcome!  Commercial dog foods with high grains are one of the main causes of crystals and UTIs.... A Holistic grain free food will make a big difference in your life.
The SoJO is fun because it is Holistic and Almost all home-made with a little help from the SoJO Folks...
Make sure you get this one:

The grain-free alternative to kibble, Sojos Grain-Free Dog Food Mix (formerly known as Sojos Europa) is a wholesome pre-mix that you combine with meat and water to create a fresh, homemade dog food. Sojos Grain-Free works great for dogs with sensitivities to grains, and also as a great fruit and vegetable supplement to our other mixes.

After you have been on the NuVET and the Holistic SoJO food - give me an update in about 30 days:  Also, always continue with the Vit C and the Cranberry, as it can't hurt....
