Hi marie, Its linda<Rileys mom the little stinker is doing good but his pooing schedual is all his own.I take him out after he eats,first thing in the morn,after a nap,and when he whines at the door.some times he has to go and some times,the most important times like when your in a hurry he wont go poo he will jump around and play so we bring him inside after 10 minets and 2 min later he poos on the floor this happens2 out of 5 xs,and when my husband takes himout to go wich isnt as often as i do he does that even more.does he see my husband as play time,or is he doing something wrong.he certainly is gentle and patient not as much as me but good enough.Its also been raining here in jersey alot and every thing is soggy and wet ,Riley isnt used to that,all he wants to do is play and eat everything in in sight,which brings me to my second quesgen are back yard mushrooms dangerous to pup if he eats some.hes gotten ahold of some the other day I quickly took it out of his mouthbut im sure some little pieces got in his belly and yesterday he seemed a little unsettled,not himself.hes eating and pooing fine just restless maybee its cabin fever.     talk to you soon hope all is well with you.       Linda

Hi Linda and Riley - don't let him eat any mushrooms.  Most of them will upset his belly or give him diarrhea.  YOU don't want that...

Next, the poop situation is common for a young dog.  Yes, he wants to play and won't do his business when he should.  I also wonder if you are feeding him a little more than he needs.  At this point he should not poop more than 2 x per day.  If you are doing the pumpkin don't go overboard with that. Canned pumpkin is wonderful but sometimes it can be too much fiber.

He also may not like all the rain and wet ground, as you had mentioned.
You may want to take your questions over to one of our Dog Behavior Experts.  The other experts may be able to help you train him to do his business upon command.
