Sheltie that eats poop

Question
QUESTION: Hi Marie, we have two male shelties, about 14 mos old.  One recently developed the nasty habit of eating his own poop. The other one has no interest. We've tried several remedies including pineapple and tablets purchased at the pet store but no luck.  We try to pick it up as soon as possible but the winter weather and shortened days make that a challenge.  This pup is really high strung and inhales his food.  We've also tried to slow him down as we've heard fast eating can lead to undigested food in his stools that can be attractive to a hungry dog.  Any suggestions would be helpful!  Thanks in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Chuck - sure, I have some help for you....
Give this kid some cooked zucchini - about two teaspoons in his food each day.  ( It makes the poop taste awful>>>>)
Next, RAISE his feeding area.... He will take in less air and may slow down.  A raised feeding is very good for any dog.  I am sure you have seen the Raised feeding set-ups at the pet store.
It helps with digestion.

Also, please place your kids on some Omega 3s and some NuVET Supplements... GREAT products for long term health/ KEEPS the VET AWAY...

here is the ordering info:
Omega 3 - Nature's Sunshine : just 1 per day - long term/ great for skin, coat, digestion, legs, hips, joints....JUST a Wonderful product.

QUESTION: Thank you for the advice, we'll give it a whirl.  I forgot to mention, we feed them Wellness brand food.  I know that's supposed to be a high quality brand but do you think we should look at other brands?  Thanks again.  Chuck

Answer
Hi Chuck - Wellness is a wonderful food... Don't change it...
Also, Shelties are known to have joint and leg problems as they get older, so the Wellness, NuVET, Omega 3s will be a plus in protecting the JOINT and hip health...
Oh, the Pineapple may have worked if you used the Cook Zucchini with the pineapple.
Also, try to pick up the poops as quick as you can...
I know it is not easy.  I have been dealing with this too.  My Maltese is now 10 months old and I have not put zucchini in her food for a few months now.  WELL, today I saw her eat a bite of POOP!!!
OH, no, back to the Zucchini again.

BEST wishes
