Question
QUESTION: Hi Ma'am, I just want to confirm the true illness of my puppy.Im really confuse bout it.  One day, I noticed that she dont want to eat anything in her dog food tray, even if I tried to put evrything that she enjoyed eating before (meats, soup, vegetables, even milk). She also dont drink water after the whole day. I thought it was just she didnt like the food but after 1 day, in the morning, I carried her and noticed a "2 piece boil like wound"in her tummy. Its like a size of a "nips/ peanuts". My mom thought it was a boil and it is the cause why my puppy got weak in the prior day. She also loses her balance when she stood up.She turns very weak.Im so sad bout it. Can you tell me what is the disease? Is it really serious? I really want to know. Im so worried. I dont wana lose my dog. Could you advise any treatment?
(Note: my puppy is just  3-4 months old, shes playful, she eats a lot just before this illness occur) Hope you can give me fast answer. I really need it right away. I didnt take to see my dog that way. ;-(

ANSWER: TAKE YOUR PUPPY TO A VET. WHERE DID YOU GET HER? A PET SHOP??? A breeder? You MUST get her to a vet immediately. She could have any number of things but the fact that she is not eating andlosing her balance is very serious. I do not want to just throw out what it could be...GET HER TO A VET IMMEDIATELY for bloodwork and an exam. This pup is sick. Susan

QUESTION: Hi Ma'am, first,Thank you for your quick response. I really aprreciate it. Second, Im sorry if I have sent the question more than once beacuse I really want to assure that you will received it. Anyway, She was given by the boss of my Dad. as for now, Her boil has drawn already, it has brought a scar in her tummy. She already eats also, her favorite is meat and soup. Im so thankful by the response Im getting from her. For my folow up question, I was wondering if what can I do to get her appetite really back to normal? Shes weak for past 2 days and loss her weight VERY MUCH. What will I give her? Could you give me some advice of proper feeding of my dog after what has happened? Anyway, for your info, My mom uses a "dropper"(just like human infant uses to intake vitamins) to feed her the soup, and then she(puppy) took the meat and eat it. Appetizer  worked for her.

ANSWER: Hi,
Please tell me how old our puppy is. I am very glad to read that she is doing better and starting to eat. But you have to get her to eat what a puppy needs. Of course, almost any kind of food that she WILL EAT is better than not eating. Having said that, I want you to try this:

Make sure she is getting good exercise..not too much exercise but enough to stimulate her appetite. Buy some ORGANIC or at least hormone, steroid free boneless, skinless chicken breasts and lightly steam them. Add some steamed yams or zucchini (organic of course). Start with this. If she will begin to eat this, then you are on the way. But puppies need puppy vitamins too so if you get her eating, write me back and I will make some supplement suggestions.

WHAT DOES YOUR VET WANT YOU TO TRY AND FEED HER? Have you tried any of the commercial dog foods? Would you consider raw feeding? HOme cooking? A growing pup cannot just have home cooking without supplements that a dog needs. So if she will eat what I am suggesting then let me know and I will recommend the correct supplements for her..Ok?

Good luck and do let me know how things are going. Susan

QUESTION: Hi Ms. Susan, again thank you for your quick response.

My puppy is just 3-4 months old but shes really at big size (and weight) as compared to other puppies in our village(well just before she got weak). Shes really playful and cuddly. Could you tell me what kind of exercise would fit her? Daily, My Mom let her outside our house (maybe for 1 hour) to run and run and play with other dogs. We also play with her inside our house when I and my sister comes home. Does this be considered as her exercise? But after her illness, mom thought being outside could be the cause why my puppy got "boil on her skin" as we dont know the cleanliness of the environment. It could be caused by some bacteria right?

As for her food, I have tried to feed her commercial dog food once, but my mom insisted that it will be better if she could also learn how to eat home cook food. We usually feed her just the same dish we eat in our table. Fish, vegies, meat. Good to hear that your are suggesting chicken breast. We have tried to serve her chicken before and she really liked it. I will folow your suggestions Ma'am. I will update you so you can recommend supplement for her.

Thank you very much. Please keep in touch so I may worry less with regards to my puppy's health and lifestyle. Your advice really a great help!!

More power to your endeavor in helping our cute little pets.-Girlie/Matet

Answer
Yes, you are giving her plenty of exercise..that is good. Yes, it could be that she has picked up a bacterial infection but that is no reason to not let her out to play--monitored is best to make sure she isn't eating something she should not.

Commercial dog food is terrible stuff. Your Mom is right. Commercial dog food is loaded with synthetics and chemical vitamins made in a LABORATORY...RAW OR HOME COOKING IS MUCH BETTER. Now having said that, be careful of JUST homecooking because it does NOT HAVE THE DOGGIE NURTRIENTS and vitamins that a puppy needs. If you don't provide these she will eventually get very sick. This takes self education and skill but is a MUST if one is going to home feed.

I would like you to contact MY MENTOR over the years because you will LOVE HER. She is so smart and will map out a diet for your lovely dog. She will also recommend supplements and vitamins that are REAL FOOD and not store bought or loaded with SYNTHETICS. OK? It may cost a little but I can ASSURE you that this woman will put you and keep you on the right track. SHE DOES NOT CHARGE TO COUNSEL YOU BECAUSE SHE ADORES DOGS. Her own two lived to be 19 and never saw a vet. They ate raw but she also knows that not everyone will want to do this.
