Question
I have a golden retriever that i had rescued from the pound when she was a pup, around 7 moths the vet told us that she had a dermodex myte, i belive it was called, He said that lots of dogs live with mytes. During that time before she turned a year she had lost her hair on her back i gave her some meds that the doc prescribed her, The mytes i guess became dorment, but i am having problems growing her hair back, about 75% came back but there are some bald patches thayt she still has. what can i do to help her coat be beautiful again and help it grow? Also She is a little under wieght what is a good food out there for her, i am feeding her pedegree right know but i dont know if it had the right nutrients for her, what are good dogs foods out there that i can buy for her. Thank you for youe time

Answer
For her hair, I would try buying her some fish oil tablets from the grocery store and giving her 1-2 a day. Fish oil has Omega 3s and 6s which facilitate shiny, healthy hair growth, among other things. A raw egg once a week will also help her coat.

As for her diet, I would change it if at all possible. Pedigree is not what I'd call a nutritious food, what with it's little meat content and questionable chemicals. First, I'd suggest you read the article located here (http://www.heartypet.com/blog/?p=63) for an explanation of ingredients. I helped write it, and it's much easier to refer you there. After reading that, if you still have questions about any of the content, please send them to me and I'll do my best to clarify.

If you want to change foods after that, I'd look into Canidae or Diamond, if price is a concern. Otherwise, Nature's Variety, Wellness, Innova, Fromm, and Eagle Pack are all great choices.

Good luck, and if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
