Liver Disease canine lactalose ; cancer-liver diet foods ; nuvet 1/2 dosages;

QUESTION: Hi there:

I have a 2 year old Lhasa Appso, Reggie.  He is a joy and we love him.  We found out approx 8 mths ago that he (likely)has Microvascular Dysplasia due to the results of his liver tests.  He has absolutely no appetite for anything.  I have tried human food, dog dried and wet food, tripe, liver, cottage cheese, well anything that I can to see if he will eat.  He will manage to eat maybe 1/8th of a cup of dried Science Diet with some crumbled dehydrated liver treats over it but that is it.....I am so frustrated as no one here (in Nova Scotia) seems to have any suggestions for me.  I have tried appetite stimulants however my vet does not recommend that he stay on this for very long.  I would so appreciate some help on this as we want to give our little guy the best life that we can for the time that he has with us.

I guess I would give him anything that he will eat at this point.
As far as appetite stimulants , this kid doesn't have much time here on EARTH, tell them VET to order your an RX of some stimulants, again.
What harm could it do, right????

Thank you so much for your response.  I would really like to try the recipes as I keep thinking that he might like something that I haven't tried, although the list is endless at this point.  It is so nice to talk to someone about this.  It is a huge burden not knowing what to do for him.......or when he will take a turn for the worse.  I cannot get an answer as to how long we might have with him so this is very hard as he is such a cutie with so much personality.

Hi guys - Poor little one!
Here are some supplements that tend to help dogs with liver disease- worth a shot if you can get it into him.  YOU can place the supplements in peanut butter or even some cooked up chicken that has been ground with gravy.

Sample Diet One  ( Liver-Cancer diet)

(one meal for a 100 lb dog, or two meals for a 50 lb dog, or four meals for a 25 pound dog)

- One lb  Lower Fat  hamburger,  cook with small amount of butter
- 1  scrambled or soft boiled
- 1/2 cup steamed or boiled broccoli  ( you can ground this )
- 1/2 cup cooked yellow crookneck squash
- 4 oz whole milk yogurt
**( FOR YOUR dog use 2 % Milk Yogurt - lower in fat just for your LIVER girl)

Cook meat, eggs and vegetables and mix. When cooled, add yogurt.

( MUST add supplement - see below for NuVET Powder)

I hope he likes one of the recipes - If you have to take the VEGGIES out and only feed the meat and yogurt....that is fine.
Just need to get some nutrition into this kid.


ASK the VET about lactulose liquid *** to prevent the manufacture and absorption of toxins such as ammonia.
It helps the toxins to move out of the body thru the poop.
Many dogs take 2 Lactulose dosages per day.
