housebreaking using pee pads

Question
My husband and I just got 2 female Yochon puppies,(Yorkie/Bichon) that are 3 months old(we bought them home at 8 weeks)that are from the same litter and we are having a hard time with training them to use the pee pads. We want them to be trained too use the pads because we have a RV and we are thinking that this would be a good way, incase we have to leave them in the RV once and awhile. They are crate trained and most of the time they are in there execrise pen that has their crate, food, water and pad in there with them.  We take them outside to play and they do pee out there with no problem. We would really like them to beable too use both of these training tools. Another problems is that they seem to go potty allot, taken them every 1hr to 2 hrs is out of the question. They can go on the pad 1 time and turn around and go on the tarp(flooring of the pen)the next. The pad is right there and they seem too go where ever they want and it's not the pad.  Just how long does it take to train 2 puppies and well they ever get it?  We aren't hard on them when they have accident, we just clean it up and don't say anything but they do scent that we aren't happy. We don't hit them or put their nose in their accident. It's just getting very disspointing in training them. I am retired so I am with them all day and I do my best to take them or catch them in the act but sometimes it's just not enough. What are we doing wrong and is it just going too take longer for them to get it, because they are still young?  Hope you have some answers Martha and David Waller Ridgecrest CA

Answer
I have never used pads, and feel pads and papers usually cause more problems than they solve.  Although dogs instinctively want to go where other dogs do, I think they may want to go next to the other dog, not in exactly the same place.  You might try putting out more than one pad, and changing them frequently.
