Question
Hi there - I'm currently researching the best food available in New Zealand for my 3mth old Beardie pup.  I've switched to NutraGold Large Breed Puppy, but haven't seen this brand mentioned as a good brand.  Most of the brands that are mentioned are not available here.  What is your view on NutraGold?

Answer
Hello Sue from Sue!
I am finding out quickly that the dog foods we have here in the states are not always available in other parts of the world. I have never seen Nutra Gold sold here but I checked it out and it does look like a decent food. Having said that, ALL COMMERCIAL FOODS except a couple of the Raw Organic types (which I use with my 3 dogs)ARE LOADED WITH SYNTHETICS and I refuse to feed my dogs any of these foods no matter how "premium" the package says they are. But your choices may be very limited, I know. Have you considered feeding raw or homecooking (lightly) and adding real food supplements such as probiotics, digestive enzymes, co-Q10, real food vitamins (these are available if you didn't know)and other targeted supplements. Right now you have a pup so getting him started RIGHT is so important. Have you ever checked out a food called Life Abundance from Healthy Pet Net? It's available only on line and the company I represent (because of the changes I saw in my dogs when using it, I became a Rep for Healthy Pet Net)is owned and products produced by an holistic vet, Dr. Jane Bicks. She is actually a cross between traditional and holistic and the fact that she went to school with my vet here in NY was a big selling point to me. At any rate, I am NOT trying to sell you anything so PLEASE do not be offended. I just know that this food that Dr. Bicks creates and formulates HERSELF is purely holistic (kibble only for dogs--we are trying to get her to formulate a wet food too)and lots of people are very happy with it--nothing artificial AT ALL, NO SYNTHETICS, NO BY PRODUCTS, NO DANGEROUS PRESERVATIVES ETC.  So check it out. But the food you are using now looks reasonable if it is all you can get and if you don't have the time to either home cook or the inclination to go RAW. Also, if you want any more info on supplementation, please let me know. Here is my link to Healthy Pet Net if you should want to check it out. It truly is a good product and the site itself is LOADED WITH INFO. SUE, BE SURE AND WATCH THE VIDEO...PLEASE AT ALEAST DO THIS. YOU WILL BE TAKEN ABACK AND QUITE SHAKEN BY THE INFO IN IT..I KNOW THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST THING I DID WHEN I HEARD OF THIS FOOD.
