Question

Saluki Sahra-Nadejda
My female Saluki (Sah h rah) is 12yrs old, healthy except she has a dysfunctional liver(sniffed a dead hedgehog). For 8 yrs she's been on RoyalCaninHepatic dog food. I tried the home made diet on this site and within the first day she became seriously ill. I did everything exactly as written. What is the difference between the Royal Canin and homemade dog food? And, why does RC work for my dog whereas the homemade doesn't? Sahra has been near death 2x (3 Vets diagnosed she should be put to sleep, the 4th believed in homeopathic therapy, prayer, and love. It worked! After 2weeks+ on IV she finally got well. She's healthy, peppy, springs & gallops like a horse and no more yellow in her eyes/mouth lining/and ears. She's completely well as long as she's administered Royal Canin Hepatic dog food and nothing else..absolutely nothing else! (she drinks prepared water) I boil it, cool it down, place it in the refrigerator to be used later as her drinking water. I don't allow her to lick, sniff or eat ANYTHING from outside. Everything is poison for her. I love my pets. I have two female Salukis and one male Yorkshire mix. Frau Daria T. Jetter SPENKE (Berlin,Germany)

Answer
Daria , I see what you did wrong.... You needed to mix the Old food : Royal Canine with the new home made food - a 50:50 mix - do a slow transition ...

Royal Canine has a bunch of poor junk fillers.  YOUR gal is not use to good quality home cooking and it will take some adjusting time.

If you want, give it another try - You can always do 75% of the Royal Canine and 25% of the home cooking hepatic diet.

Good luck !  YOU are a great mom!
BEST wishes on the Next Try!
