My dog ate a large raw breast!

Question
My dog, Jada, an American pit bull terrier weighs about 50 pounds. She is in general good health with the exception of skin allergies causing hot spots, itching, and her ears often become inflamed and filled with a micas like fluid inside sores. We treat her with benadryl and it works well. That is just some background; now on to the matter at hand. Tonight she reached up on the counter and managed to grab a rare chickenbreast marinating in garlic, salt, pepper, and beef juice. It was about 2 pounds. Will she be ok? Is there anything I should do, or signs to look for?

Answer
Hi Abbigayl,

If your girl has an allergy to chicken or beef, she may experience a flare up of symptoms such as itching... otherwise, I'm sure she enjoyed her treat and will be perfectly fine. Perhaps a little loose stool, but the chicken was probably quite lean, so perhaps not even that.
Healthy dogs do well with raw food diets, although many with health conditions do not. I use a raw diet for the health issues you've described her, so I wouldn't get too worried. I doubt there was enough garlic in the marinade to provoke a problem.

I do hope she feels fine and no flare up of symptoms, but if in doubt, always contact your vet to be on the safe side.

All the best, Catherine
