Homemade diet for bichons with struvites

Question
Is there a recommended homemade diet for bichons with struvites. 8 year old female bichon fed CD for 3 years--developed one large struvite removed surgically 2007. Same bichon fed Royal Canin Urinary SO for next two years. Xray showed struvites too numerous to count--removed surgically March 2009. Bichon placed back on CD. July 31 xray shows struvites beginning to form. Second 6 year old female bichon--also kept on Royal Canin and now CD--no struvite problem until July 31 xray showing struvites beginning to form. Vet considering use of SD, antibiotics and monthly xrays. Only snacks offered are dry form of CD. Avoiding all foods as recommended by Osborne/University Minnesota studies. Please provide info for diet to prevent struvite formation. Thank You. Joseph.

Hi Joseph - Oh Boy!  What a mess ... that Hill's RX diet is full of junk-  I know they feel it is the WAY to Go, but NOT... Too many junk fillers - Look at the ingredients.
Yes - here are some recipes :
If this is too hard for you we also refer many folks to the SoJo GRAIN free home cooking mix:
here is the SoJo for your review:  Both kids could have this and also 2 supplements:
Cranberry and NuVET Plus -

Below are links to SoJo ( you add your own WHITE meats lightly cooked, to the mix)

Make sure you order the grain free green bag mix:
Oh, they also have grain free treats ( 2 kinds)

Next - here is the cranberry Link and "NuVET"-

YOUR bichon needs just 1/2 of a NuVET wafer per day - Immune system booster / vitamin / and helps to heal the UTIs *** - I have many urinary clients taking NuVET with great results ...
*both kids can have 1/2 per day
A 60 count bottle is only 39.00 **  ( a 90 count is 55.00 PLUS ask about the discount)

Keep me posted - I would be glad to work with you.
Good supplements and Grain free foods will make a big change in your Bichon's health.
Low cost too - compaired to Surgery and the Hill's foods.
Wow - I have heard it all but this is so sad - To put that dog through all the surgeries...
POOR kid -  An POOR YOU - paying all the bills!

Good luck
