Recurrent UTIs

Question
Hi.  I have a 2 1/2 year old female husky that weighs 58 pounds.  We rescued her and immediately took her to the vet.  She has food allergies to lamb, chicken, rice, yeast, and peas.  She also has a persistent UTI's and struvite crystals.  These two health issues makes it hard to find the right diet to control each one and return her to good health.  She has seen an internal medicine specialist and at this point has tried everything he can do treat the UTI's including a reconstructive surgery.  He does not have a good diet solution.  I would like to see if you have any diet suggestions and how to make it balanced.  I recently started her on probiotics and Salmon Oil caps 2,000 mg daily.  Any diet and supplement information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any suggestions that you have to help my little girl get passed this.

Answer
Hi,
What you are doing NOW is just great. I would like to see you home cook for her and avoid all commercial and prescription foods. Is she really ALLERGIC or just INTOLERANT TO CERTAIN FOODS? And how do you know for sure that she is allergic to these items. Have you isolated these foods to really check to see if she is allergic? I ask because a lot of times people say a dog is allergic, esp. when they are using a commercial product. And usually it is NOT the meat or veggie that the dog is allergic to but all of the chemicals in THAT PARTICULAR DOG FOOD. All commercial dog foods, and I mean ALL, are loaded with synthetics and chemicals and I would not be surprised if your dog is reacting to these and not the products you listed. I am just discussing with you, NOT DIAGNOSING.

As you know, you MUST FOCUS ON diet and I would like to see your dog on REAL FOOD and nothing commercial or prescription. I have been thru hell with my two small dogs and my mentor has helped me tremendously. I would like to see you feed your dog organically or as close to this as possible and would like for you try a single protein approach as in an organic meat of your choice. The same for veggies and fruits--only ORGANIC. You can go raw or home cook as long as you add the correct REAL FOOD SUPPLEMENTS. i AM going to give you the email address of the woman that I credit with saving my dogs' nutritional and digestive lives. Tell her that Sue referred you from this site. She will be GLAD TO HELP YOU AND SHE DOESN NOT CHARGE because she adores dogs. This woman is brilliant when it comes to diet and nutrition and you will never be sorry that you wrote to her.

Here is her email address and if she isn't out of the country lecturing, she WILL write to you within a few days--she usually does.

Her email and name is: DoniaSea@aol.com and her name IS Donia (rhymes with Sonia)

My email is DazzlinDaawg@aol.com and my name is sue. If you contact her and write me at my address we will both be able to help you with diet. Hope this helped somewhat, Sue
