Adult food for Lab

Question
You say to switch to an adult chow for the larger breeds at 4
months. I have 7 months old lab and she is eating Royal Canin
Maxi Junior which they recommend should be given until she is
15 months old. Should I switch to food for adults sooner and
if so why?
I give her food three times a day. Should I switch to two
times now or later?

Thank you

Answer
Puppy chows are formulated for fast growth, faster than is best for the larger breeds' joints.  The dog food companies have tried to reduce the problem by making the large breed puppy chows less rich.  In some cases they are little different from the all life stages food except the label and price.  Such foods are highly profitable, but still not the best for the puppy's joints.  It is all part of the science that puts an abundance of affordable meat on our tables.  The longer you feed the Maxi Junior, the more money Royal Canin  makes.

There is no need for 3 meals a day at 7 months.  I switch to 2 at 3 months and one after 6 months.  I don't know that more meals a day hurts anything.  I like feeding once in the morning because I am always home then and the puppy has had its bowel movement by the time I take it out anywhere later.
