Diet for frequent UTI

Question
My 11 year old Lab/Cocker Spaniel cross has frequent urinary tract infections. I monitor her ph regularly which runs high. I give her Bragg apple cider vinegar periodically to help balance this. She has always had weak bladder muscles. She urinates frequently outside and has submissive urination. She had an attack of Pancreatitis a year or two ago and has been on a home diet ever since. I follow Dr. Pitcairn's recipes. I am wondering if you could recommend a different diet or foods that I could include in my current diet that would help her maintain a lower PH. Researching tonight I found a product called UTI-free. Have you heard anything about that product? We currently do acupuncture. She is on bladder herbs from our vet but they don't seem to reduce the number of infections that she gets. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
It sounds to me that you are doing everything right except for, possibly, the herbal remedies you are using. I do not like herbs since they are medicinal. This could be causing some problem.

DO YOU HAVE HER ON A PROBIOTIC?? A REALLY ABSORBABLE PROBIOTIC, POWERFUL STRENGTH WITH BLUE GREEN ALGAE? You mentioned everything but adding good bacteria into her diet. I would like you to consider this. Email me, if you like, at: DazzlinDaawg@aol.com and I will provide more info. Dr.Pitcairn is awesome and I also, follow some of his suggestions.

NOW AND WITH YOUR PERMISSION, I will forward your info to my mentor whom I credit with saving my one Yorkies digestive life. I kid you not. This woman is awesome. Yes, she works for a supplement company but her diet, medical and supplement knowledge far surpassed what my TRADITIONAL vet was offering when my little guy was passing blood constantly, vomiting and losing weight. He was really sick and though he had no urinary problems she still was on the mark. It took TIME. It took my TRUSTING HER but she came so highly recommended and I had no where else to go except meds and steroid, that I placed my trust in her and have never looked back. I would like to send you letter TO HER and then forward her response to me, to you. I will give you her email address if you like. Simply contact me again at my email address: DazzlinDaawg@aol.com and I will get back to you ASAP. She charges nothing because she adores dogs. Her own two dogs lived to be 19!! She is alive today because of her diet changes and finding the most healthy supplements on earth..of course she is now an officer in the company. I was so impressed with her product (WHICH SHE NEVER PUSHED AT ME)because My Buddy started healing that I became a rep with that company. I do not go out and actively sell..ever. I am just GIVING YOU INFO AND BACKGROUND. Let me know if it's ok if I forward your letter to her. This way, if and when you contact her (she really IS AN EXPERT in animal's medical areas--knows far more than I do) she will know who you are. Also, I am thrilled that you are paying attn to the Ph factor..very, very important.

HOpe this was somewhat helpful. If you do shoot me an email, please ID yourself in the subject line so that I don't delete you LOL. All the Best, Susan
