Bladder stones

Question
About a year ago, my dog Ginger had an operation to remove bladder stones. Since then, she's been drinking bottled water and eating Hills C/D (dry and canned) per our vets instructions. Ginger was in for her checkup last week and they took a urine sample. She also weighed 46 pounds - 40 should be her max - and the vet said it was because that type of food was high calorie. I was very upset about her weight. I'd hoped to put her on a mix of diet and urinary food but now it turns out there is an increased level of crystals in her urine (no blood or infection) again. The doctor prescribed Vitamin C. Is there anything i can do, specifically in regards to HOME COOKING - that would solve both these problems - the crystals and the weight. I would be happy to cook for Ginger if I knew it would make her well. Thanks!

Answer
Bob,

I'm sorry to hear that Ginger is suffering! Could you send me a few details so I can get a little better understanding of the potential cause?

- What is the specific type of crystal found in her urine?
- What breed is she?
- How old is she?
- Was there any health / diet change just before she began having this issue?
- Does she have any other medical issues?
- Is she on any medications or supplements?

I look forward to your reply!
