How much to feed a 5mo old Siberian puppy?

Question
Hey!
I have a 5mo old siberian husky pup.  2 weeks ago I started phasing out the hamburger meat I used to mix in with his dry kibble, and now he's eating like 50% less kibble than he used to.  He's never really been psyched about his plain kibble but will eat it when hungry, so I figured he would eventually come to terms with the lack of hamburger...but his kibble intake has continued to be a lot lower than it used to.  I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't inadvertently starving him or something.  He weighs about 30lbs, and is eating 1.5-2c of Eukanuba large puppy kibble per day, and maybe a couple of dog biscuits here and there for treats.  I was told by my vet that pet foods often exaggerate the amount of food that a dog is supposed to eat - the label says he should be getting in 3.25c/day.  Do you have any idea how much food he should be getting?

Answer
What he is eating sounds a little on the light side to me, and perhaps the bag is on the high side.  What you want to do is focus on his condition and adjust his food to his individual needs.  I have had Labs that at a year old I have been feeding anywhere from about 3 cups to more like 6.  Determine his condition using http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx  Have the vet confirm your judgment next visit.  While I am used to Labs that see the seal as the ideal body type, there are dogs that just plain won't eat enough to fully hide their ribs.  Unless it is excessive, the best thing is to leave well enough alone.

You should go ahead and switch to adult chow the next bag.  Slowly work in more and more until at the end of a week, it is all adult chow.  It slows growth allowing more time for the joints to develop before carrying the full adult weight.  The worst thing you can for a large breed puppy's joints is to feed it too much of too rich of a diet.

Please don't go back to adding hamburger.  The Eukanuba is carefully formulated to have everything the dog needs and in just the right balance.  Give him a little time and he should be eating all he needs of it.
