Question
is vets choice highly recommended?

Answer
I am not familiar with it.  I have never seen a rating system based on anything except speculation about ingredients.  All the ones I have seen, the well proven common brands score very low.

It is like Aristotle and Galileo. Aristotle though about it, and declared heavier objects fall faster then light ones. For most of the next 2000 years, educated people knew that. Then at the dawn of modern science, Galileo lugged the large and small balls up the the tower of Pisa, and dropped them off. They hadn't read Aristotle, and both hit the ground at the same time. I am afraid the dog world is full of thinkers. Most of my answers are based on my own results trying what I have been taught by the best there is.

There are no controlled tests of different chows available to the general public.  Most manufacturers do limited tests using AAFCO methods.  If the chow says TESTED by AAFCO methods it has at least been fed to dogs to see how they did.  I know the service dogs schools have done extensive testing, but I haven't see the test results.  I do know they are all feeding the poorly rated common brands to their highly valuable dogs.  How valid can such ratings be?
