Question
okay i have an eight year old shitzu poodle mix and I am not exactly sure what his proper weight is supposed to be, but i know he's over weight, he is on iam's diet food and getting more exercise now, he seems to be loosing weight but i was wondering if there is any way i could help him loose weight with home cooked meals once a day or something? please help me

Answer
Good morning, Jessica.

Providing home cooked meals for our pets is always a great idea.  It certainly can make it easier to control caloric intake and it allows us to use ingredients appropriate for our pets.

If you want to do one home cooked meal a day and one kibble meal a day, that would be fine.  I would, though, recommend changing from the Iam's diet food to a more appropriate kibble with more meat protein.  If you're inclined to stay with a diet food, something like Wellness Core Reduced Fat or Evo Reduced fat would be good options.
