Question
QUESTION: Hi Susan, i have a couple of puppies Pomeranians, and a been reading on this site about dog brands food, the problem is that in my country we don't have such a good brands like you in the USA we only have what we call premium: Eukanuba, proplan, Hills, Royal canine or Diamond, do you suggest one of this? thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Your choices are limited and besides I am not a big fan of commercial dog food, preferring instead to feed as raw as I can most of the time--with added supplements. But of the ones you mentioned ProPlan is probably the best. Why not research, and home cook? But remember that if you decide to home cook you MUST learn how to do it because you can really, down the road, harm your dog if you don't know what you are doing. Dogs need certain nutrients, minerals, vitamins that home cooking will not provice. Therefore, if you take this route, you must learn what your dog needs. Checking with a nutritionist would probably be a great solution. Anyway, are those the only brands of dog food in your country? What about ordering on line? Could you do that? let me know, Susan

Answer
Hi,
Many people do not like to cook, period!! Of the foods you mentioned to me, all three are pretty much top of the line as far as commercial dog foods go. I have a particular affinity for Wellness as I have used this product many times with great success when my dogs needed a change for whatever reasons. I would try the Wellness product and see how your dog does. Also, if you are switching foods, PLEASE GO VERY SLOWLY--do not just put new food on the floor too quickly. Slowly mix it into the old food you are using and gradually decrease what he has been getting as you increase the amt of the new food. Changing a dog over to something new should be done SLOWLY and over about (approx.)five to seven days. Too fast a switch and you may wind up with dogs with upset tummies, diarrhea and vomiting. Of course, you may not also, but better to be safe. Good Luck. Susan
