recipe with chicken for canine struvite bladder stones

Question
I have seen your recipes for canine bladder stones but they were for beef or tuna.  Can you tell me is there a reason you cannot make this with chicken?   What about cooked ham also.  I know she needs to drink allot of water and this has salt....but is salt one of the things she needs to stay away from. My vet wants her on s/d and the c/d science diet.  I want to be able to fix her food because it sounds like she wont eat it or I will not want her too.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Diane,

I'm not exactly sure which recipes you are looking at however I don't see any reason that you couldn't use chicken or any other meat. A good variety of meat proteins helps insure maximum nutrition since different meats provide different things.

I would however avoid ham. It is high in salt and depending can have other things your dog doesn't need. You also want to make sure that any chicken you use doesn't have any broth or added solutions. These also contain alot of salt, some dogs can tolerate this many others can't.

I know there are many people who feed homecooked diets, however I prefer to feed raw foods. Dogs are designed to eat raw meat, bones and offal. I feel that feeding raw foods is better for our pets, however that doesn't mean a good homecooked diet is bad. Raw or homecooked will always be better than commercial kibble.
