Feeding 1.5 yrs. female cocker spaniel

Question
I have always purchased IAMS and Eukanuba to feed her.  I bought once Candidae and she was pooping too much.  I want to purchase the best food available for my cocker...what do you recommend and how often (since she is a pooper:) I do give her 1.5 cup once a day...please advise

Answer
I have never seen any proof one chow is better than another.  all the rating systems are based on speculation aboutthe ingredients.  If she has done well on Iams, I see no reason to spend more on something else.  At the request of the assistance dog school he belongs to, I am feeding my 4 month old Golden Iams.  Trust me, the large assistance dogs schools have far more resources to determine quality chow and incentive to do so.  Iams is the most widely used chow in all the programs.  How much you feed may be more important than what you feed.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Most of the larger dogs do fine on one meal a day.
