Question
How much food should I feed my 7 year old miniature dachshund dog per day? She weighs from 15-20 pounds. She is slightly over weight and I do not want her to continue gaining. Thanks-L

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. I am very disappointed how few people giving advice about dogs understand the above.  It provides a simple way for any dog owner to find the right amount to feed their dog.
