hypoallergenic diet

Hi Catherine,

You answered a question from Mary about Hypoallergenic Diet...My Dog, is a 16 year old Spaniel X.  He is being treated for IBS.  He will not eat the "Prescription Diet" food.  I am interested in recipes/recommendations for a Homemade Hypoallergenice Diet.  Also I have read a little info on Pre-digested Protein and wondered your thoughts on that.  I know we are close to the end of our life with Max, but would like him to be happy, comfortable and full for what ever is the remainder of his life.  Thank you, Marty

Hi Marty,

This is a complex case for which I would have to recommend my own or someone with equivalent training and experience's services.

IBD is very idiosyncratic and the ideas I offer here may or may not be appropriate. In general, I start out with a lower fat, moderate protein diet and lots of fiber from a variety of sources, including resistant starch. I work with diet first and then supplements. Is a consultation something that would interest you?
