Bengal smell

Question
QUESTION: Marie,
I have the most wonderful Bengal neutered male cat 1 1/2 years old; about 16 lbs. When he goes potty, the smell is just horrible. I clean his litter box twice a day because he goes very often, he must urinate an easy 1/2 cup at a time. Any suggestions? I have him on special tummy food but that does not help.

Thanks,
Katherine

ANSWER: Hi Katherine:  The urine smell is overpowering?  If that is the case then could he have a crystal probem with his urine.  Also, are you sure he is not diabetic.  A diabetic cat will have a very odd and almost sweet urine smell.

****what kind of food is he on?  You said a " tummy food"???

If you can get back to me on this, then it could help me.

Thanks for your question

QUESTION: He is on Iam's for "sensitive stomachs". He has been checked by the vet for diabetes & is fine. This is NOT a sweet smell & it is not only his urine but also his feces. I am diabetic & I had thought of that first off when I got him. Maybe it is just the species of cat; I tried the Bengal websites to see if any info was there, but not.
Thanks for your help,
Katherine

Answer
Ok, Well... Glad he was checked for diabetes... could it be the food he is on.. the Iams has a bunch of fillers ...

Here on the ingredients on your brand and formulation: ( iams )CAT/ sensative stomach ...

chicken meal, corn grits, animal fat, corn meal, rice, lamb (4% min.), dried beet pulp, chicken protein, dried egg, fructo-oligo-saccharides (FOS), calcium carbonate, brewer's yeast, potassium chloride, fish oil, DL-methionine, sodium chloride.

The NOT good items are the :  Corn Grits, corn meal, and beet pulp.  The 3 items can cause gas and stool odors... Not sure about the fowl smelling urine???

There are other Holistic Brands out on the Market that are much better than this one:  I would check into anything holistic at the local pet store.  Just make sure corn or corn meal is not in the first 7 ingredients...

I have samples for dogs and cats of my NuVET Supplements - all natural vitamins for your baby.. Stop by my site and ask for a sample
