possible dog food allergy

Question
I have a mixed breed, 8 year old dog named Squirt who recently has had a few problems with UTI's and recently had bladder stones surgically removed. The vet had us change her diet to Royal Canine urinary SO. Since we changed her diet, Squirt seems to be constantly licking (especially at night)...she does not lick one specific spot but all over. I wondered if it was an allergy to her new food. She was always on a hypoallergenic food before (not because she had allergies just because it was a good brand for her). If it is the food (it could be the corn)...are there any foods that would work well for the urinary problems/bladder stones but that does not contain corn?

Answer
Good morning, Robyn.

I'm sorry for taking so long getting back to you.

If she has started the licking since the new food, it is likely the new food is the problem.  It is possible, too, that it is not the food and is something environmental.

Do you know what kind of stones were removed?  Typically you can feed a good, high quality food but it will depend upon a few things.  First, has she had a problem with her urinary PH through the years?  What food was she on prior to the problems surfacing?  And again, what kind of stones did she have?

As soon as I hear back from you we will discuss diet options for Squirt.
