QuestionMy 7 month doodle puppy has a sensitive stomach. At 5 months, we went through 8 weeks of trial and error with lots of loose stools before settling on Natural Balance duck & potato. My question is, with protein at 21%, is this enough for a growing pup, or do I need to supplement with another protein source. Prior to the start of her stomach probs, she was gaining about 1-2 pounds per week. During the weeks of trial and error, she stayed steady at 38 pounds and was getting a little on the thin side. Since starting the NB, she has gained 5 pounds in 4 weeks, and remains in good condition. She's eating about 4-5 cups per day, depending upon her activity level.
Her brother developed the exact same symptoms within a few weeks of her, so it would appear that the problem is genetic.
AnswerHi Kristi, Sure, that food is fine for this pup. I would add a few things to the mix:
Each day give her 2-3 teaspoons of 2-4 % small curd cottage cheese OR 2-3 teaspoons of Activia yogurt - mixed into the dog food.
I would do this for at least 2 months.
Also, You may want to start her on the NuVET wafers - excellent vitamin supplement - many of our clients take 1-2 NuVETs per day - It is just like a treat.
Give 1 per day long term: VERY safe and Natural
Order here ( sorry, not in stores)

Tell the NuVET folks about your dog and the sensitive belly issues. They are great to talk with and they sure do love all animals!

Also, how about adding 1 tablespoon of pure Salmon oil to the dog food .... MUST be salmon oil - don't get the fish oil. ( you can try 1 teaspoon per day and later on do 1 tablespoon once she is 11 months or older)
HOPE this helps! BEST wishes and Happy New Year
