Question
My name is Annemarie de Ridder and i'm from south africa, i just bought myself a husky but I'm not sure what tipe of husky she is ( a siberian or alaskian). she howls alot and has blue eyes. She has 'n medium size length coat she is 8 weeks old and i need to know what tipe of food i can give her.

Answer
Most dogs will thrive on most dog chows.  I have no idea what may be available in South Africa.  Many of the common brands, Iams, Pedigree, various types of Purina, Science diet, etc. are widely available.  there may be some fine chows produced locally too, but I have no way to evaluate them.  The idea you can tell much about a chow by reading the ingredients is nonsense.  The nutrients dogs need are well known, and there are many different ways of getting what the dog needs.  No one ingredient is good or bad.  It is the careful combination of ingredients that is important.  Your dog should do fine on any of the large multinational companies' food you find.

You should be feeding a puppy chow now. Switching to an adult chow for the larger breeds at 4 months, slows growth and helps develop sturdier joints.

Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs.
