Dog food, bladder stones

Question
My Silky Terrier, Toby, has had 2 surgeries within 16 months for bladder stones.  After the 1st procedure, my Vet put him on U/D Prescription Diet.  After a couple months he developed a skin disorder where he breaks out in itchy bumps and rubs all the hair off his lower back.  I discontinued the U/D and it cleared up within a couple weeks.  After a few months, 3-4, he developed another stone.  It was surgically removed and I was advised to put him back on U/D.  That was 5 months ago.  About 1 month ago he started showing the same reaction.  Now he's back to rubbing off the fur on his back and has lots of "allergy-type" bumps, like bites.  He is "flea-free"  I have made sure of that, so I am thinking it's the food.   Nothing else has changed in his environment.  Is other anything else on the market that works like U/D in preventing the formation of bladder stones that would be safe to feed him?

Answer
Hi Ellen - Royal Canin makes one but it is not too much better than the U/D.
The only thing that will work is a home cooked diet - you will make his food weekly and freeze it.  I can provide you with a recipe for him that is Stone Friendly -  also, you will need to use a few supplements, that I can provide links for.

Let me  know if you want my help on home made diets?
